OMAHA, Neb. —

Nebraska Rep. Don Bacon's campaign is touting its second-quarter fundraising numbers. In a post to the social media site X, his campaign said Bacon raised $970,000 during the quarter and ended with nearly double what he had raised through June 30, 2022.

According to data from the Federal Election Commission, the four-term Republican has raised $4.3 million in his re-election bid and spent $2.1 million, leaving him with about $2.2 million in cash on hand.

His challenger, Nebraska state Sen. Tony Vargas, hasn't raised as much but also hasn't spent as much, leaving him with more cash on hand as of the latest report, which runs through June 30.

Vargas, a Democrat, has raised $3.5 million and spent $1.1 million, leaving his campaign with $2.5 million in cash on hand, about $300,000 more than Bacon.

According to Vargas' campaign, they raised $1.35 million in the second quarter, which is twice the amount raised in the second quarter in 2022.

Both Vargas and Bacon have surpassed their entire election cycle totals for the 2022 race. Two years ago, Bacon finished with $3.9 million raised and Vargas with $3.4 million raised.

Bacon and Vargas are vying for Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District, which consists of Douglas, Saunders, and most of Sarpy counties. In 2022, Bacon narrowly beat Vargas by 6,000 votes.
