Nebraska Examiner: Group presses petition seeking paid sick leave for all Nebraska workers
State Sen. Tony Vargas of Omaha has spearheaded legislation that highlighted the need for paid sick days. During the pandemic, he also pressed a separate bill that highlighted the related needs of workers whose jobs were deemed “essential” during the pandemic, including workers in meatpacking plants.
Vargas, reached late Thursday, said he knows as a working dad “how hard it can be juggling your job and needing to care for your loved ones when they are sick.”
”Every Nebraskan should be able to take a day off when they’re sick without risking their job or their ability to pay their bills,” he said.
