Nebraska Examiner: Vargas leads Bacon in latest polling showing tight race in NE-02
OMAHA — Recent polling on the left and right agree on one thing about Nebraska’s 2nd District contest for Congress: The race remains a toss-up.
The latest hint is a campaign poll funded by Democratic State Sen. Tony Vargas shared with the Nebraska Examiner this week that indicated he was leading Republican U.S. Rep. Don Bacon by 2 percentage points, 46%-44%, with 9% undecided.
The Vargas campaign paid Global Strategy Group to survey 700 likely Nebraska voters by cell phone and landline, June 25-30. The survey took place shortly after President Joe Biden’s debate against former President Donald Trump. The polling memo listed a 4.4% margin of error.
Vargas led Bacon by a single point at this point in the 2022 race, which was a non-presidential year. That year, Bacon beat Vargas by about 3 percentage points.
